Rather than presenting a sequence of random samples from my collection, I feel that an introduction of sorts is needed if an understanding of my writing and artistry is to be obtained. Every word to be read is saturated with emotion and tainted by personal experience, therefore each has a meaning all its own. I am a professional writer of 4 years with 10 years experience in writing, editing and research. I tend to apply both developmental and feminist theoretical frameworks to research and writing, and one is absolutely favored over the other. The transition from scholar to professional was a period of determination, confusion and exhaustion. There were times when I questioned everything I'd ever known and learned, which resulted in critical judgement and even a few tears. But, what I have gained is a fresh lens through which I view the world and a strong voice through which I am heard. Words in print reflect thoughts in mind. This period of change sparked much curiosity within me. Identity and personal development emerged as facades and self-inflicted restrictions slowly faded away. I feel that I am grounded as an individual and am able to participate in life as a proactive agent, not a passive bystander. Over time I have become obsessed with meaning and symbolism and have spent much time researching the significance of names in my own heritage. At one point I ran across an amazing read, a splendid ebook by Da Juana Byrd that detailed the meaning of names and the letters in them, and also the paths that names can create. Never in my life have I been able to explain or express myself in a way that's easily understood by others, but this book defined everything about me so precisely that I have included the excerpts here.
